Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many sessions will I need?

This varies greatly from person to person and very much depends on the nature of the problem and what the client would like from the sessions. The recommended number of sessions is discussed and agreed during the assessment.

  • When and where can I be seen?

Currently appointments are available in Northallerton Monday to Thursday 8 until 5 pm and in Helmsley any evening and at weekends.  Appointments can be arranged at other times and locations if required.

  • Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No. All you need to do is contact Dr Henderson in the first instance for an informal discussion of your circumstances and requirements. Dr Henderson can then discuss with you whether an assessment would be useful, or whether another service would be more appropriate for your needs.  Dr Henderson would recommend that she writes to your GP so that they are aware of the support you are receiving, but this can be discussed with you.

  • What if I need to cancel or change an appointment?

Twenty four hours notice is required if a session needs to be cancelled, so that the appointment can be offered to another client. Otherwise £40 is charged to the client. Clients can reschedule appointments by contacting Dr  Henderson by phone or email.

  • Are my sessions confidential?

The content of sessions and client information/notes are kept confidential. There may be some circumstances when confidentiality cannot be kept, such as if the client is at risk of harm to themselves or other people. If this were the case, Dr Henderson would always seek to discuss this with the client beforehand.

  • How do I pay?

Self-funded clients can pay after each session or invoices are issued on a monthly basis.  Payment is via cash or cheque or through your insurers.

  • Will my health insurance pay for my sessions?

This will depend on the type of cover you have and whether psychological assessment and therapy is included in your cover. It is best to check with your provider prior to the assessment. Dr  Henderson is a registered provider with the following insurance companies: AXA PPP Healthcare, PruHealth, WPA, Cigna HealthCare, Aviva and Simplyhealth.
